Junior Golf: Mitchel Kennedy, 17 of Scarborough, shot 71 WINS AN ALL-EXPENSE PAID TRIP TO THE OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FLORIDA FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR.
On a hot, sunny day, forty-three (43) young golfers competed in the Annual Optimist District Junior Qualifying Golf Tournament held Monday June 21, 2010 at Caledon Country Club, hosted by the Optimist Club of Brampton.
Mitchel Kennedy of Scarborough was the 16-18 year old winner and qualified for an all-expense paid trip to the International Optimist Junior Golf Championships in Florida this July. Alex Turner, 17, of Toronto and Emerson Bianchi, 16, of Woodbridge both shot 72 to qualify for all-expense paid trips to Florida as well.
The winner in the 14-15 age group was Michael Reaume ,15, of Ottawa with a score of 74.
Tied for second place was Yuvish Singh,14, of Brampton, and Marc Gallo,14, of Thornhill with scores of 76. The winner was decided by a sudden-death playoff and Yuvish Singh was declared the winner of the playoff. Michael Reaume and Yuvish Singh both advance to Florida.
In the 12-13 age group, the trophy was claimed by 13 year old Jonathan MacDonald of Mississauga with a score of 74. Runner-up, with a score of 75, was 13 year old Wesley Day of Ajax.
Jonathan MacDonald and Wesley Day both qualified to advance to the Florida International Championships.
In the 10-11 group the winner was 10 year old Nicklaus Naumovski of Hornby with a score of 85.
In the girls competition, 15 year old Adrienne D’Alessio of Woodbridge shot 84 to win the 14-15 age group, and was also named top female golfer.
The following nine golfers qualified to advance to the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships held at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida July 22 - August 1, 2010:

All the above golfers also qualified to play in the Optimist Canadian National Junior Golf Championships to be held in Ingersoll August 9-11, 2010.
Thanks to our Optimist volunteers who marshaled the tournament – Ted Simmonds, Wilson Bedford, Don Staddon and Jim Lynge. Next year’s District Qualifier will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Caledon Country Club, Inglewood, Ontario.
