I would like to take this opportunity to wish you, your family and fellow Optimists a very Happy New Year.
During the fall months I was fortune to be able to visit a number of clubs, attend fundraisers, and anniversary celebrations. In speaking with members, friends and family it was very evident that each and every one of you are passionate about what we as Optimists do for our communities. This is true for members who are charter members, life members, seasoned members, and new members. Each one of us exhibits the qualities of an Optimist!
While we move towards a new year I ask you to join me in working to make sure the children who need us have our help. Share with at least one other person that special feeling you get when you help someone else by asking them to come join in our fun! Some of you may be aware that I had a total knee replacement earlier this month, what you may not know is that I was still attempting to recruit! While on the operating table I was asking the nurses and doctors to come join us in our pursuit. I may not remember much of that time. My Surgeon was able to tell me he knows all about Optimists and what we do when he came to see me a day later. When my daughter came into my room a few hours after I was out of surgery I was trying to recruit my nurse – so she says. While I may not have signed anyone up (that I remember !?!?!) the word has been spread about our community!
President Ken has advised us that Any new Member added between December 1, 2014 and February 28, 2015 will have the $15.00 new Member fee waived. What a great opportunity to share the gift of Optimism is truly a gift worth giving that will give back.
In closing, I hope to be able to visit more clubs in 2015 and get to share stories, fellowship and laughter with you. Please do not hesitate to invite me – I will come, with Optimist Barry if I can. January might not be a month of visits due to physiotherapy and focusing on strengthening my health so that I can be the best representative of our District that I can be. I look forward to coming back with full Optimism in February!
From our house to yours – Have a Merry Christmas and a very happy and safe New Year!
