What a great year we are having in CENON with the addition of new adult and JOI clubs. I cannot thank all those involved enough, great job and give yourselves a pat on the back. For everyone who has brought in a new member(s) thanks from the bottom of my heart.
We have just had our 3rd conference and what a fantastic day with 8 extremely gifted contestants in our oratorical competition. I am so relieved that I do not have to judge these presentations. We also heard the winning essay and once again I am impressed by all the youth that have participated. Thanks to Optimists Michelle and Marijke for jobs well done.
It has been such a rewarding year and I am saddened by the fact that I only have approximately 4 months left as your governor. I cannot tell you how much enjoyment I have had visiting clubs, partaking in zone meetings and learning about all the great things you are doing for the youth in your respective communities.
As I am sure you have heard at our conferences plans are well underway for our annual convention taking place in Markham from August 18-21/17. We have many activities planned, great training seminars, a spouse’s program and a scotch nosing. On Saturday night, we are having a murder mystery with everyone in attendance trying to solve who the felon is. That will be followed by (and i want you all to save up your comments about me) a roast of the Governor with all the proceeds going to the CCOF (Canadian Children’s Optimist Foundation.)
Please remember that when you register before July 1st you will be entered into a draw for 2 nights free lodging.
I cannot stress enough that we do need registrations in order to confirm numbers to the hotel for meals. I do not want any of you to miss out on the companionship that these events provide.
In the meantime, please continue to make yourselves, your communities and the youth all the best they can be. I know that CENON (the best district in all of Optimist International) will be mentioned in Albuquerque at the international convention and it is with great pride that I will represent all of you.
Thanks for everything you have and are doing this year and remember it is all about the youth as we “Drive Optimism Forward” because “Together We Can”

As we start our second 6 months of our Optimist year I want to tell you how good we are doing in CENON and what a great district it is.
Please remind all of your club presidents that we will be having an outrageous golf attire contest in Kingston with the winning club receiving a very unique golf cart as well as extra A&A points in the year long battle for being best in zone and district.
Just like our last 1/4 board where 1st lady Linda let the parade of people dressed in golf balls, I will be leading the line with my outfit although I am not able to win. So get everyone to get busy and lets have some more fun.
Please join me in welcoming our new ladies club that was chartered this week with 19 members in Arnprior.

Here we are, halfway through our 2nd quarter and I have to say that with your efforts CENON is definitely “Driving Optimism Forward”.
What a great second conference we had in Newmarket Feb 4th. We had members of 28 clubs attended. Thank you to everyone and to all the clubs that received awards congratulations on a job well done!
Remember it is the youth in all your respective communities that reap the benefits. Just think how much more we can do to bring out the best in youth, ourselves, and our communities if we add more members and make our clubs healthier.
INVITE OUT A NEW MEMBER
I also want to remind you that one of the requirements to be a honour club this year is to hold a New Optimists Welcome meeting. All you have to do is just ask a friend, a neighbour, or even a stranger. If you don’t ask you will never know if they can bring new ideas and vitality to your club. The ones who benefit are our youth who are the future of this great country of ours. Remember they are the reason WHY we do things and not what we do. The smile on just one child’s face as is all the thanks we ever need.
Mentioning our country, wouldn’t it be great if we could add 150 members to help celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canada? I am sure we can do it. Let's “Just Ask”.
NEXT QUARTERLY CONFERENCE
Our next conference is at the Ambassador Inn & Resort in Kingston, on May 5-6th. This is always one of the highlights of the year when at the Oratorical District Finals we get to listen to young people telling us, “What the World Gains from Optimism.” The winner will be selected to represent us at the World Oratorical Competition in St. Louis, Missouri.
We will also be hearing the winning essay on, “Chasing Optimism in the Face of Challenge”. I am always amazed at the different
takes on the subject and know that I would never want to try and judge them since they are all outstanding.
Also don’t forget we will be having an outrageous golf attire contest and all clubs that participate will be getting extra Awards and Achievements points.
Linda and I are looking forward to seeing many of you in May. Remember, it is why we do it, and not what we do, for the youth as we “Drive Optimism Forward”

Registrations received on or before April 10th will be entered into a draw to receive a free registration for this conference! Please keep in mind that registrations received after this date are $30, not $20 so it's worth it to get your registrations in early. You can register online and at the conference. E-transfers to firstname.lastname@example.org are also accepted. You can also email me at email@example.com to let me know you are attending if would prefer.
Lunch is $30 and the hotel has promised to make it worth every penny! Here's what will be included in the tasty 'executive' buffet:
Pesto Rubbed Chicken Breast with Roasted Garlic and Red Pepper Glaze, Four Cheese Tortellini with a Hearty Marinara Sauce, European Rolls & Butter, Chef’s Daily Soup, Tossed Garden Greens, Balsamic Vinaigrette & Creamy Italian Dressing, Chef’s Choice of Potato or Grain, Fresh Seasonal Vegetables, Selection of Desserts from our Baker’s Table and Seasonal Fresh Fruit.
**Please be sure to inform me of any allergies you or your *guests may have as soon as possible so we can give the hotel enough time to accommodate our needs. *including families and guests of kids attending for the oratorical. We need our final numbers for the lunch by April 28th. After this date, there is a good chance lunch will not be available to those registering late.
There is a separate registration form for Oratorical Contestants and their families. This is so we can get a more accurate number for lunch. It is very important that all people attending lunch are registered so that we can make sure there is enough food for everyone. We would hate to have to turn anyone away, so please make sure that if your club is sponsoring someone for the oratorical, you register them and any guests they have attending with them ASAP.
